When I was a child and I got sick it was simply a case of bed or blankets on the sofa, sleep and a bottle of Lucozade (in the days when it was cellophane wrapped and counted as medicine). Roll on to 2013 and if I get sick it is inevitably "a virus" and the list of advice and remedies comes at me from all angles. Which is fine except I end up feeling guilty for not following all that advice and then blaming myself for getting sick as if it is something I did to myself!
Fact is viruses are all around us and sometimes we are more prey to picking them up. Fact is I have Seasonal Affective Disorder and sometimes I get low and I really do need to remember to be less hard on myself and accept that I am human and need to rest.
When I get a virus, I need to rest, drink gallons of water, eat simple unprocessed food, take paracetamol, cuddle my hot water bottle and stay cheerful. That's it. No magic potions, special teas, herbs or spices.
